Find me at Mud & Lotus!

come for a massage, stay for the soak and sauna!

Good day, friends. The weather has begun to tease us in the mornings, and actually, the days are already letting us know that autumn is on the way. The crops will change, the honey flow will slow, and….sauna will happen again. Speaking of, I wanted to let you all know that in a week from today, I am starting to practice massage and spa therapies at Mud & Lotus Holistic Wellness Center. Come for a massage and stay for the soaking tub and sauna! For the past few months, I have been interviewing with business owners, checking out studios to rent, and planting seeds on how I could ease back into full time wellness arts. I’m thrilled to have found alignment with what feels nourishing to myself, so that I can nurture others again. I will be there Wednesday’s from 5-9pm, Friday’s from 3-9pm, and Sunday’s from 3-9pm. I will still be taking appointments at my home studio as well. My home studio schedule will fluctuate, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you don’t see something that suits you.

Those of you who know me, know that I love sauna. Sauna boasts so many benefits that stretch well beyond just physical. A few benefits include:

  • Respiratory and Skin Conditions

  • Circulatory and Cardiovascular Health

  • Mental and Physical Relaxation

  • Detoxification and Weight Loss

  • Lowers the Risk Of Dementia

  • Provides A Healthy Space For Community or Solo Experiences

I found sauna in my early thirties, shortly after becoming sober. Sure, I had been in saunas before, but I had never been a part of a sauna community. Since then, I have developed deep relationships that I consider part of my spiritual path. Rather than going out to party on the weekends, sauna became a ritual for me. I came together with mostly strangers to me then, at a home here in town who hosted weekly sauna sessions. You had to have an invite, you had to abide by the rules and etiquette of sauna, and surprisingly, much of that could transfer off the bench.

Wait for the invitation.
Be mindful of how your voice is carrying in the space.
Don’t bring up dicey conversation.
Don’t show up smelling like a bar.
Solid advice!

Most times, sauna naturally lends itself towards meaningful conversations, ones that have helped me process a lot over the years. Much like massage, sauna helps me work out my issues through my tissues, and it’s a practice I can return to time and time again. I find the cultural significance of sauna incredibly fascinating. People today come together to let go of their days and weeks, and in more historic times, they used the sauna for much more, and in some countries, still do. Babies were birthed, meats were smoked, the sauna was the communal bathhouse, and it’s where loved ones were laid out once they had passed, as a clean and safe way to allow their loved ones to say their goodbye before burial.

Next spring, Billy and I will have our own Saturday market stand, which we are looking forward to. For now, honey can be found from our friends and vendor, Homestead Ranch. Billy is also at the Clinton Parkway Nursery Farmer’s Market on Wednesday’s from 4:30-6:30 until September 27th. Right now we mainly have honey and bee pollen, but a few more things are about to be ready, so keep your eyes out.
