Swarm Season

...and Congolese art to look forward to!

It was a beautiful and balmy weekend, filled with friends and food. I don’t usually spend that much time socializing, but sometimes it fills the cup just right. I also started a new book Friday night that I am nearly done with and would highly recommend to those who would like to learn more about the creation of the Panama Canal. The Great Divide is an historical fictional account of Panama during the early 1900’s, full of characters you will love and won’t want to let go of. If historical fiction is your jam, this is a beautiful book. As someone who nearly made my home there, still considers it, and continues to have a vested interest as a permanent visa holder, this book gave me more insight into how The United States has and continues to shape the influence of Panama. I am still swayed by the lush lure of places like Panama promise. I listen to a slew of podcasts devoted to education on the (un)ethics of travel, being mindful of my carbon footprint, globalization, and the like. But once enough time passes, I get fidgety and start planning and plotting at least a quick escape. Escapists want to escape, you know? If you would like more info on the impacts of travel, I can recommend resources on any platform that you prefer to receive information.

To fulfill my responsibilities in retaining my visa in Panama, I must travel there annually. Oops! The next trip will be quick and will involve going to the Caribbean side of Panama’s Isthmus, a place I have never been. I will be looking forward to sharing more about this towards the end of the summer. Think - Congolese art and food, crystalline beaches, and the history of Black Christ.

For those of you who have shown interest in the Guided/Hosted Panama trip over the holiday season, please let me know if a later timeframe would be better. I am coming up against some schedule conflicts and would like to make it more amenable if possible. I think I have the group full, but folks nothing is set in stone yet.

It's Swarm Season, ya’ll. What does this mean? It means the bees are busy and you might come upon a stray hive following and/or looking for their queen. What do you do if you come across a hive that needs to be rehomed? Call us, we can handle it for you. Billy will put out a swarm trap and find the appropriate place to rehome them. That might be at our house, or it might be with someone who is looking for a hive. If you happen to be looking for a hive, let’s chat. There’s nuance to this, with several variables to consider. A phone call with Billy is best to discover what you might be looking for and what is appropriate for your needs. (785-691-6698)
